Obama's threat to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan

The reluctance to sign bilateral agreements on security by the outgoing president of Afghanistan , Karzai has angered his American counterpart , Obama, who has threatened a total withdrawal from Afghanistan of all military personnel . The question of the bilateral agreement that the U.S. is seeking for months , is still due to the resistance of Karzai due, among other things , the influence of the various assemblies of the elderly, who do not take kindly to legal protections for U.S. military ; the agreement, in fact , should include, among other things , the different legal treatment for the U.S. military and on this point there are just the main differences . Karzai knows , however , that an Afghanistan without the U.S. military presence is a state destined to be recaptured by the Taliban and Al Qaeda , his tactic is to delay the eventual signing of the agreement by passing the responsibility to the new president , in as he is at the end of the second term and no longer be re-elected .. This attitude does not reassure Washington, which to present the extension of the mission to the country , albeit at lower ranks , can not do that without appropriate safeguards for their soldiers . In fact abandon Afghanistan to its fate is the last thing they want the Americans. The war against the Taliban has cost many sacrifices and achievements would be nullified , leaving the difficult territory to guard the only armed forces in the country, judged yet unprepared . In addition, a re-conquest of Afghanistan by the Taliban , the main allies of Al Qaeda, the terrorist organization would open up the real possibility of creating a logistics base , both for its own military campaigns , both as an example of the fundamentalist Islamic state . However, the U.S. needs not only concern the relationship with the public opinion of the country, but also with the organizational needs of the Pentagon, which must have all the guarantees required to prepare the maintenance of residual strength . In spite of all the candidates running for election in No president of the country declare themselves in favor of the continuation of the strategic partnership with the U.S. , the White House requires first the necessary guarantees . The Iraq experience has scored a lot of American strategy : Iraq, left alone to himself, without sufficient strength to protect themselves has become a hotbed of international Islamic terrorism and the state fails to exercise its sovereignty over all its territory . The case of Iraq is , for Americans , a clear mistake not to be repeated , Afghanistan is also a necessary outpost for the American presence in one of Asia not at all peaceful and characterized by precarious balance. The closure of the U.S. base in Kyrgyzstan, under Russian pressure , he then emphasized this need. For all these reasons, the threat of Obama seem to have the sole purpose of speeding up the signing of the agreement , even if the attitude of Karzai could result in a further reduction of personnel deployed , the hypotheses ranging from a maximum of 25,000 men , believed to be the deployment that ensures greater efficiency , to pledge to only 3,000 units , but that would not allow sufficient mobility for the control of the whole territory . For the White House is still the problem of aversion of public opinion, contrary to the value of 66 % to maintain the U.S. military in the country of Afghanistan.
