Racism alert in Italy

The repeated hostile acts against the population of color that are taking place in Italy, show how the climate of tolerance has changed with the advent of the new government. A government elected above all in reaction to the economic policy of the previous executives, which gained more votes due to lack of alternatives than for the programs shown. Unfortunately, the provisions of previous governments, especially in economic matters, have caused the shift of electoral flows to formations in part of a right wing without any competence in the planning of aspects of labor and production, but capable of thickening resentment and guilt of third parties, and partly towards a movement clearly unprepared to face the challenges of governing the country. The five-star movement, which was the largest Italian party, also revealed a profound lack of preparation at the political level, in knowing how to face the most experienced allies of the Northern League: a party from a local base, highly critical with the south of the country, which then turned to seek the approval of the entire national audience. Currently the Lega Nord is the party that has existed for a long time in Italy. His program is a mixture of liberal proposals, perhaps not financially sustainable, and anti European, in the sense of affirming a desire to regain sovereign shares in relation to Brussels. The secretary of the Northern League, who also became the interior minister of the Italian state, was a skilled politician, capable of leading the party from a percentage of four percent to over seventeen in the last election competition. His electoral campaign focused on the fear of the different and with sometimes extreme, but obviously effective, positions. Arriving at the government, although with a percentage of votes considerably lower than the allied party, the five-star Movement had exceeded thirty percent, has asserted its greater political experience, creating the perception, in part true, to represent the most important part of 'executive. Through his action of government, certainly in an involuntary manner, a message seems to have passed against immigrants, which for some has legitimized autonomous justice and persecutory acts against people of color. Despite an underlying aversion to the phenomenon of migration, the feeling is that the situation has escaped from hand and that instead of remedying it, try to justify these acts with totally unsuitable motivations. The perception of a change in the climate towards immigrants is evident, Italy seems increasingly to be inhabited by a large share of racists, who now have the impression of being able to act unpunished to give vent to their instincts. On the other hand, maintaining the debate on the issue of immigration is central to the government in order to disguise its incapacity to keep the electoral promises and the heterogeneous government program; until now the executive has not yet begun to discuss the pension reform, the only element of the program truly shared by the two majority parties. Even the inadequacy of a divided opposition between parties that have irreconcilable interests and the situation of the Democratic Party, which lives an internal labor that is probably irreparable, helps to foster this racist drift, because there are no concrete initiatives to combat the phenomenon. The climate that is breathed in Italy is therefore deteriorated, the country appears worse for an economic recovery that does not reach the middle and lower classes and the enemy is identified, as a propaganda that continues well beyond the election period, in the immigrant , also regular, in black people also of Italian nationality. The task of the government should not be to reduce the aggressions to mere delinquency, but it should give the right value to these phenomena in order to cut them off as soon as possible, even while maintaining its political direction. On the contrary, if we do not want to proceed in this direction, the country will be increasingly de-legitimized in the face of world public opinion and this government will constantly suffer an international ostracism that will make it difficult to operate in Europe; then, of course there are Trump's US and Orban's Hungary.
