The US wants Europe to abandon the treaty with Iran

The United States presses Europe on the Iranian nuclear issue. Washington has unilaterally abandoned the Iranian nuclear agreement, signed after a very long negotiation by the Obama administration, as well as the European Union, Russia and China. With the establishment of Trump in the White House, the pattern of relations with Teheran has changed and the Iranian country is once again identified as the main enemy, also for the US rapprochement with the Saudi monarchies and the improvement of relations with the government of Tel Aviv . In essence, Trump has returned to a policy of rapprochement with the Sunni countries, despite these have been among the financiers of the Islamic State. Now, then, the enemy is Iran, identified as a guide for the Shiites, including the Syrians, Hezbollah and even the Yemenis. This vision is functional to Israeli and Saudi interests and does not take into account the lack of progress in the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians, the state of repression in Saudi Arabia and the violence by the Sunni coalition against Yemeni civilians. At the conference for peace and security in the Middle East, under way in Warsaw, where Iran was excluded from participation, it was clear that the American will to increase pressure on the Iranian country. Here the US has expressed a negative opinion on the countries of the European Union about the lack of support to Washington in the sanctions against Iran. The Brussels position remained to hold on to the signature of the treaty, without accepting the American proposal, reaffirmed in the Warsaw conference, to adopt diplomatic and financial pressure instruments against Tehran. The European reasons remained firmly rooted in the vision that inspired the treaty and that, basically, the agreement with Iran was the lesser evil, because it prevented a nuclear proliferation of war, while it guaranteed civil development, including through inspections. This reading of the agreement is not shared by the American administration, perhaps increasingly influenced by Israel and by the vision that the Arab countries transmit, a vision that fears Iran's negative influence on unstable countries like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. The American intention is to proceed with ever-increasing pressure on Tehran, even at the country's serious economic crisis, which could encourage rebellion against the regime. Europe, however, is not in agreement with this vision and, indeed, European countries are studying alternative measures to protect their businesses, which have received important orders and orders from the Iranian country, in order not to incur the American sanctions, foreseen for all those companies that will continue to entertain business relations with Tehran. The clash, therefore, seems destined to intensify between the US and Europe, increasing the distance between the two parties whose relationships have worsened since Trump came to power. The attitude towards Iran, if it has served to bring the USA and Israel closer to the Sunni countries, could cause a resentment in the Iranian country, already in difficulty for the economy, which is already turning into an ineffective closure. the opening process started by Obama and dumped up by Trump. This risks exacerbating the Iranian position on important issues such as Syria and Iraq, while maintaining a dangerous degree of instability in the region.
