Ukraine: NATO on alert

After the diplomatic row over Ukraine has become cause for deep contrast , the level of the crisis now suffers also from an increase in military point of view . In any case, for now, the more negative is the possibility that Russia will push up to the regions of the Russian-speaking eastern part of the country of Ukraine , resulting in a considerable reduction of the territories or Kiev . The moment that marks the greater involvement of NATO in the field is not random , we are on the eve of the referendum of the Crimea and the formalization of an already accomplished fact , the annexation to Russia , it could generate , just in the eastern part of Ukraine, the repetition of the facts of the Crimea. Previously the Atlantic Alliance had also deployed on the Romanian borders reconnaissance planes to monitor the movements of Russian troops. But the area of NATO's engagement is not limited to the borders of Ukraine and the Black Sea, but also involves the Baltic Sea, with the presence of other aircraft at a base Lithuanian Americans , with the task of controlling even the moves of the fleet Russian on that side of the Polish border . Despite the suspension of joint activities between Russia and the Atlantic Alliance military channels , as opposed to those diplomats, seem to have remained open , a sign that there has yet to be fully closed and a form of dialogue remains standing . It remains, however , a finding of Rasmussen , NATO Secretary-General , that the current situation is the most serious threat to peace and security by the end of the Cold War . These words , although granted, constitute the official status of the difficulty of a situation, which , after all , Americans are still hoping to resolve a diplomatic way . This concerns the hope of reaching a mutually agreed solution without the use of sanctions , which would open up a scenario of division hard to fill in a short time , a factor determined to solve other crises in the world , first of all Syria. But the U.S. seems to be an illusion : Russia considers the area that has invaded , and possibly also the adjacent area, the territory under its influence , acts , that is, with the belief that they have every reason on his side , and considers also the ' political action of the West a simple invasion of the field , it is clear that with these conditions there is no possibility to , to Moscow , to withdraw from his intentions . This situation is very clear to Germany that even uncheck from any military purpose , it seems to already be playing with the instrument of pressure of sanctions. The possibility is thus close and the consequences will be those of a more divided .
