Iran and Saudi Arabia are trying to get closer

Iran's and Saudi Arabia's diplomacy is experiencing a timid rapprochement. At this time formal relations between the two countries are interrupted for their withdrawals from embassies from the capital. The first step in the rapprochement was the announcement by Tehran Foreign Minister of an exchange of visits between the representatives of the two states, which is considered a pre-requisite for re-linking bilateral relations. The first result to be achieved is the reopening of the embassies of the two countries as a key element for cooling relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. This scenario will, in addition to normalizing relations between the two countries, also help to resolve two crisis scenarios, such as Syria and Yemen. Another problem that could be solved is the isolation imposed on Qatar by the Persian Gulf monarchies, just for its relations with the Iranian government. The Iranian hope is that Saudi Arabia may reconsider some of its policies to foster a positive attitude of Tehran. The division between the two countries is charged with religious reasons, which are undoubtedly present, as the two nations are the major representatives of the two parts in which Islam is divided. This has generated in the past, and even now, deep contrasts, which have turned into political clashes; However, the reasons for the distance between the two countries are also of an economic nature, both of which are major producers of raw materials linked to the energy sector and of the desire to extend their respective geopolitical influence in the Middle East. Iran, after the nuclear agreements, is slowly coming out of international isolation and has taken on an increasingly important role in the regional context, effectively fighting the Saudi. Iranian engagement, directly opposed to the Islamic state, has further increased Tehran's importance in the international scenario, but has heightened the confrontation with Saudi Arabia, precisely because it has put in place Shiite fighters against Sunni, albeit belonging to To the terrorist forces of the Islamic State. This factor contributed to the preservation of Shiite Shiite Iraq, the invasion of Caliphate forces, but at the same time highlighted the Iranian will to regain a prominent position in the regional and international chess. This provoked the Arab reaction, which coagulated around the major Sunni countries, such as Turkey and Egypt, beyond the unofficial support of Israel, a historic enemy of Tehran. To this must be added the change of the American attitude, which with Obama was marked by a substantial balance between the two countries, especially after reaching the agreement on Iranian nuclear, while Trump has shown greater contiguity with Saudi Arabia. To balance this opposing deployment, Iran has approached Moscow, which is allied to the Syrian conflict in support of Assad. However, it is important for Teheran to continue to play a prominent role at the diplomatic level and to be conciliatory in favor of the development of interrupted international relations. On the table, one has to solve, first and foremost the Qatar question, which must come out of the isolation imposed by the Sunni countries and the much more tragic one in Yemen, where the Saudi conflict and Shiite beliefs have dragged on for too long, creating A very worrying health situation for the presence of cholera. It is understood that without a basic agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, there is no way to negotiate these and other scenarios where the two countries are either direct or indirect, but in any case opposed. Needless to say, the resumption of relations between the two countries would also be a factor of stabilization not least for the whole region.
