Russia shows its military might

In the political program and the intentions of the Russian President Putin, has always been central to the desire to give back to the country's status as a major world power lost with the dissolution of the Soviet empire. It has not yet developed a strategy of international politics of rest, Moscow does not seem to shine desire to win with initiatives in the international arena, Putin's Russia seems to point more to adopt a more powerful military apparatus. It seems, in fact, the key chosen by President Putin to restore luster tarnished the image of Russia as a great world power. The plans for the modernization of the Russian armed forces are progressing so shipped, thanks to the rich allocated budget, 486 billion euro for the period 2011-2020. It is a vision that suffers, inevitably, from the past Putin's personal and mentality from old Soviet apparatus, a mix of nostalgia and desire to flex its muscles. These are the premises that have moved the largest military maneuvers carried out by the Russian army from the Soviet period, which is taking place these days in the eastern borders of the country. The numbers involved are substantial: 160,000 men and 5,000 tanks, 160 aircraft and 70 ships to deploy a huge potential firepower. The purpose of the deployment of this force is to see his tactical ability and operating in a region of Russia, which is considered a strategic stronghold from Moscow. No coincidence that the maneuvers have caused concern for South Korea and Japan, which seem to be monitoring the movements of Russian troops. In particular, Tokyo fears the intrusiveness of the Russian fleet, as there is very cumbersome in its seas and this would have alerted the United States to sail with their ships in the waters around Japan. Between the two countries there is also the vexed question of the sovereignty of the Russian Kuril Islands currently, what the Japanese call the Northern Territories, a matter which constitutes an obstacle to the normalization of relations between the two nations. According to some analysts, however, this demonstration would be sent to China, despite the military cooperation agreements between the two countries. Russia, which shares with Beijing's 4,300-kilometer border, fears that China might try to take parts of its territory, also the maneuvers are intended to discourage the phenomenon, increasingly, the illegal immigration of Chinese citizens to the Russian territories. Despite all these signals, the unanimous opinion of the majority of observers is that the Russian armed forces are still far from the standards of the Soviet Union, both as a purely military capacity, which on the face of the experience tactical and strategic, but the growing commitment , just concentrate on the military, rather than on increasing the capacity of political mediation, raises questions, even disturbing, on the future role that Russia deemed to play on the international stage.
