North Korea proposes a federation with South Korea

North Korea raises an old proposal of unification of the two states of the Korean Peninsula in a federative form , where they can live with the two political systems of the two nations . This federation , according to Pyongyang, should allow the peaceful coexistence of an elective democracy , founded on a liberal economy , with a hereditary communist state . It would clearly an unprecedented political experiment , which could not but arouse the greatest interest for the experts on the subject , but that would little chance of reconciling the two systems totally the opposite . The North Korean proposal is not as far-fetched as it sounds, because it is dictated by the objective conditions of necessity and is part of the meetings between the two states to allow meetings between families separated by the Korean 1948. This proposal is intended , first, to fight on the political front, the incessant activity of the premier South Korean Park Geun - Hye , pointing to a reunification of the two countries , under the democracy of Seoul. Pyongyang has warned that danger in a concrete way , because of the particular weakness of its economy, and accused South Korea of plotting to overthrow the Communist political system in force in North Korea , including through the help of foreign powers. It is not difficult to identify in these foreign powers, the United States, which are the most important ally of Seoul and that they would see in a manner favorable to a unification that would, among other things, to eliminate in a peaceful manner , the North Korean regime , which is always an unknown dangerous on the world stage as the holder of atomic weapons . But the North Korean proposal there is only an attempt to contrast the political action of Seoul, as a real need to raise a disastrous economic situation , which has brought the country repeatedly struggling with food shortages . The economic sanctions that Pyongyang is subject because of the nuclear issue , have thrown the country into a state of extreme poverty and the way the federal solution could open up new possibilities positive for the North Korean economy . North Korea probably think that a meeting of the two countries , although a federal form , which maintains in force the two jurisdictions, may favor an economic recovery . In fact there is already a common experience in the economic field , consisting of the production area consists of North Korean territory but used by companies in the south , due to its low cost of labor supplied by Pyongyang . However, it remains difficult to believe that Seoul would accept a close collaboration with a state with which it is not even in force a treaty of peace and a political system that has totally alternative to own; On this basis , moreover, the strategy moves to South Korea seek reconciliation between the two states , where only the necessary condition to be able to enter into negotiations is the political change in North Korea, a requirement that Pyongyang can not accept in his system locked. The North Korean proposal must still be considered a positive signal in the context of tension, sometimes resulted in episodes that led to the brink of war , which affected the relations between the two countries since 1948 , and where the inhabitants of the two states have in common same origins and ethnicity .
