The rearmament of Japan

The growing insecurity that is affecting Southeast Asia to Japan requires a revision of the dislocation of his troops , increased military spending and the rethinking of cooperation with other states to a common defense strategy . There are basically two dangers to which Japan feels threatened : China and North Korea . The budget will be increased by 5% for the total military spending of the next five years and will affect the modernization of all the armed forces, through the purchase of submarines, fighter planes , missiles, drones and naval units , so as to ensure the protection of the south western part of the country, the most exposed to a possible Chinese attack . The aim is also to create a rapid reaction force , even with the garrison of uninhabited islands, but that may be a tactical outpost effective in the case of attack on the nation. It is clear that this case relates to China , which has greatly increased its military strength , thanks to its economic capacity and with which Japan has ongoing tensions on the issue of disputed islands . But this reason is only the tip of the iceberg of a more general problem , which is given by the Chinese expansionist policy in the region, which , in the eyes of Tokyo, appears to be aimed at a change of the structure of the space ship and aircraft of the East China Sea . In this context, despite starting from alliance with the U.S., which represent the best ally for Japan, the Tokyo government aims to improve and intensify cooperation , in terms of defense , with South Korea, India and Australia. The relationship with the first two countries is clearly strategic in anti China: Seoul has ongoing disputes with Beijing similar to those of Japan, while New Delhi is the capital of the state emerging in greater competition with the country of China, especially in the economic sphere . However it is not only China to worry about Japan , even North Korea , both for its internal political situation , which for the possession of the atomic bomb , is a real threat to Tokyo, also as a result of explicit and periodic threats that come from Pyongyang. To cope with this danger it was thought to protect missile that can ensure coverage in the event of attacks by North Korean carriers , this being the only means by which Pyongyang could possibly hit the Japanese soil . To increase the effectiveness of the decision-making process of the military command is provided for the establishment of a National Security Council , which shortens the chain of command , increasing the speed of response and activation of the defensive . This decision rearmament of Japan , was welcomed , as was to be expected , with concern in China, where it is still vividly recall the Japanese occupation during the Second World War , with its train of atrocities committed by the Japanese on the civilian population . Despite the intense trade developed over the years between the two countries , in the Chinese society of the military invasion of Tokyo is very present in the collective memory of China and an arms race in Japan is a sign of considerable apprehension . This element is used by the government in Beijing as easy propaganda in addressing the Chinese population 's hostility toward Japan. In fact the concern of Chinese leaders is that an increased military presence in the hostile area of the East China Sea , and especially in the disputed islands , can raise the level of diplomatic clash , leading to the presence in these waters also of U.S. forces. The goal of Beijing is to make sure most of the exclusive economic zone and the reorganization of Japanese military power seems to become a brake on Chinese ambitions .
