Bolivia: the victory of Evo Morales

With a blend of populism and practice of government, especially oriented to economic development, Evo Morales won the presidential elections with a large advantage of Bolivia. The growth of gross domestic product in 2013, the percentage of 6.78, the highest in the history of the nation, is certainly one of the reasons for the confirmation of the outgoing president. These benefits in economic growth, a constant in the leadership of Morales, have allowed us to significantly reduce poverty in the country, which went from 60% in 2005 to 45% in 2011 should be recognized that Morales has been able to take advantage of the exigent circumstances the world economy, which led to a significant increase in energy prices, through the sale of raw materials in the country, especially the gas, wisely, that allowed him to gather support significant in the international arena, especially when compared to a country with similar capabilities and starting points such as Venezuela. The win came with a consensus value that ranges between 59 and 61% and allowing Morales to have two-thirds of the assembly, a fundamental parameter for the decision-making skills necessary to continue its political program. The election result was also aided by the excessive fragmentation of the opposition, which is divided into four parts. Particularly significant affirmation of the president in the area of economic department of Santa Cruz, which is the nerve center of the economy of the country, where, in the past, it recorded the highest figure of opposition to Morales. This fact, which is the real novelty in the outcome of the election, since the re-election was widely expected, was due to the fact that, Morales, while maintaining a profile on the left, followed a liberal policy with employers, who allowed us to achieve the targets set in the program for the country's economic thought in the past year. One of the great merits of Morales, in addition to the aforementioned reduction of poverty, which, from the social point of view, it means the inclusion into the fabric of the country of a large part of the population, remained on the margins until then, there has been virtually total cancellation of all colonial practice, which has allowed the country to take on a character of its own more and more peculiar. As a counterbalance to these merits can not be not share the criticism of a government system increasingly directed towards autocracy, both for the same inclination of Morales, which derives from the large consensus charged, is the almost total absence of a figure Alternatively able to emerge. Of course, the charisma of the Bolivian president appears to be on the rise and this could favor, thanks to secure control of the National Assembly, also anti democratic phenomena, however, until now, there has not been any behavior that authorizes thinking in a turning point of the genre.
