The fight against poverty in Latin America

There is a particular situation in Latin America regarding the condition of the work: an increase of salary of workers does not match a similar increase in jobs; As it is evidenced by a World Bank report, which shows that in the countries of Central and South inequalities have not diminished, and for three years no progress in their reduction. However with the current economic situation, which marks a decrease in the prices of raw materials, the structural consequences will have serious repercussions on the labor market, we need to fight against poverty. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the percentage of the population living on less than $ 4 per day by one percentage point in 2013, compared to 2014, reaching 24.3%, while the situation of extreme poverty, including those who live with an average of $ 2.50 per day is down from 12% to 11.5%. It is a little progress, but who report a trend still too slow in reducing poverty, also these values are not to be considered uniform, as in Central America and Mexico in the values are lower. It must be stated that we are in the field of the labor market, where the largest part is that of low-skilled workers; This share, which is the largest, has represented, especially after the first years of this century, an opportunity to raise their income and get out of extreme poverty, although those are much less pay and can only allow the passage from misery in conditions of poverty. It is estimated that unskilled workers constitute half of the labor force in Latin America. With this numerical strength and the difficult world economic situation and without adequate support of state policies, improve the employment situation is very complicated, as to be called insignificant. The only changes, until now it has been possible to record in the commodity-exporting countries, where wages have increased medium and have produced similar fallout even in areas not directly related with this sector, raising the average incomes of the countries involved. On the contrary in countries that are not commodity exporters wages have kept the same level, when they have suffered declines. One of the objectives set by the countries of Latin America was to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030, but to do what is necessary to diversify production and mainly focus on human capital. Education is the instrument to aim to eliminate extreme poverty; improving skills achieved with a higher average education was the driving factor for the reduction of inequality. Of course we must improve these small increments of combating poverty by supporting local governments with international programs can continue to increase the audience involved, especially thinking to women and minors, often engaged in work activities that are at the expense of school attendance.
