In Greece, more than 280,000 people have no access to food
There
is an irrefutable fact that states better than most the total failure
of the European project as it has been carried out so far by Germany and
Brussels. A
datum whose social and moral value is indisputable and which means that
the presence of poverty is real and tangible, in the European Union,
where it should not have citizenship rights and be only a bad memory for
a long time. However
the lack of resources that causes a lack of access to food is a reality
created by the financial rigidity, which will ensured stability above
all poor people. In
fact over 280,000 people in Greece have requested, through a formal
application, to get food aid to the Fund for European support of the
needy. It
means that these people have sunk into a state of necessity, unable to
make the minimum necessary to feed in order to ensure its survival. The
view of the requests for help is likely to be even larger, because the
total number of applications only about 50,000, were presented
individually, while the other by charities and non-governmental
organizations which deal with the food problem in the greek village, playing
a role as substitute institutions, often unable to intervene because
the victims themselves of the cuts imposed on Athens. The
high influx of applications for access to aid resulted in the extension
of the deadline for requests, making a further analysis of the serious
situation. To
complete this scenario must be added the serious health crisis that
crosses Greece, where they reappeared diseases long since disappeared,
due to the impossibility of cure of different people, associated with
severe cuts imposed to medical care. These
factors, plus many others that should be the basis of the European
project, or at least be equally important for financial services. Injustice
to hit the population, often innocent choices of governments should be
recognized immediately by central Europe and be remedied soon. The
action to redress the budget situation should not strike
indiscriminately, but take into account the basic needs of citizens:
health, nutrition and education; vice
versa is likely to alter the social and political equilibrium of any
country involved in such a situation, which now regards Greece, but that
may potentially invest any other was the subject of attention of
financial rigidity. The
greek given the need for food aid to the population can only ask the
question on the convenience of belonging to Europe and the euro, not
only in terms of political and economic, but its practical, given
similar situations did not occur with the national currencies. The
will of the punitive Germany against Athens is justified only minimally
and is not eligible if it involves such effects, bringing a country to a
level of unacceptable poverty. These
signals go beyond the danger of populism as evoked by the bureaucrats
in Brussels, who also is a threat not just, why invest the minimum
rights of citizenship which are survival and medical care. We
are facing, that is, to a clear abuse of power imposed by a Member
State which reserves the right to interrupt the sovereignty of another
state, which has the immediate and direct impact on its citizens, even
depriving them of the opportunity to feed. It
is clear that this situation is unacceptable, as equally unacceptable
is the fact that European states, apart from a few timid exceptions,
suffer so sometimes passive and sometimes, instead, contributing to this
trend too active totally disagree with the founding principles of 'European Union. Perhaps
it is better to rethink the institution and also get to envisage a
division between northern Europe and southern Europe, which would allow
greater autonomy and eliminate these dangerous tendencies.
