Military transformation of the Islamic State
If,
from the classic military sense, that is the environment they face off
against armies in more or less conventional, the forces of the Islamic
State are facing more and more decisive defeats, the reaction of the
caliphate has moved on to a more international conflict became asymmetrical. The
inability to maintain positions in the land conquered and transformed
in the sovereignty of the Islamic state, due to a number of reasons, not
all military, led to an increase in acts of terrorism worldwide, in
retaliation of the military successes of the army Iraq and its allies, the Scythians and Western forces with the US in the first row. The
objectives of the Islamic State have thus become the Sunnis of
countries that supported implicitly the caliphate, foreign countries in
Sunni and Shiites in Iraq. These
phenomena have increased with the siege of Raqqa and seem to mark a
turning point in the methodology of the fight against their enemies by
the men of the caliphate. This
transformation is dictated by contingent reasons, they see primarily
the loss of sovereignty over the conquered territory and the consequent
need to develop new forms of struggle, which may be within the reduced
availability of fighting Islamic extremists; in
this sense, one can not but notice that the Islamic state is undergoing
a transformation towards a classical terrorist activity, which appears
to approach her, especially as operating modes, with Al Qaeda. There is primarily a punitive intent in the interpretation of the terrorist attacks in Istanbul and Saudi Arabia; these
two countries provided a hidden support for the Islamic state for their
geopolitical purposes, both to counter Iran, that to achieve their aims
on Syria. The
executives of these Sunni countries have been forced to change their
attitude by the evolution of the conflict, which threatened to bring the
war within their borders, both by American pressure, sure this could
tolerate too ambiguous attitude in contrast to the caliphate. Especially
Turkey, where transited oil sold by the Islamic state and which served
as the main source of funding, has had to cease these trades, and this
resulted in a violent response caused by a sense of betrayal by Ankara. In
these attacks we have identified a change of the authors, who have gone
from being inexperienced people to sacrifice without great losses in
terms of knowledge, to the use of more bombers trained militarily, whose
sacrifice implies a subtraction to the most experienced fighters of the
parties caliphate. This
change of direction was imposed by the increased attention of the
police force to which he had to respond with the use of personnel able
to circumvent controls and therefore have a higher training. This
consideration shows that it has become a priority the use of trained
fighters in suicide bombings, taken from the battle zones, because of
the negative outcome of the war for the caliphate. This
can also mean that the Islamic state beginning to consider the military
defeat as a possibility with big chances of happening. This
scenario thus implies an increase of asymmetrical combat mode, tend to
create terror and alter the balance in the Sunni nations where there are
Western interests in Shiite areas to exacerbate religious conflict. Consequently,
the Court also make some considerations on the mode of conduct of the
war against the Islamic State in Iraqi territory if, as already
mentioned, the military victories seem indisputable, it is equally true
that they do not go hand in hand with proper operation of improvement social
conditions of the population that has suffered the sovereignty of the
Islamic state and thus with a better perception of the Iraqi government.
It
should be noted in this regard, that the state of Iraq is ruled by
Shiites, who are the minority in the country, and that, for this reason,
must win the trust of the Sunni areas; although
the best solution would be a division of the central power, waiting for
this opportunity, the government in Baghdad should focus on rebuilding
large investments, especially in infrastructure such as hospitals,
schools and roads, in order to demonstrate in a tangible way attention to the Sunni part of the country. Without
this policy the risk is to see defeat the military effort because not
supported by an adequate involvement of the population and therefore
capable of encouraging more breeding grounds for terrorism.
