The most immediate challenges for the Atlantic Alliance

The Atlantic Alliance meeting in Warsaw is facing a number of security issues, which highlight how the current situation is viewed with much concern. Compared to the Cold War, the Atlantic Alliance sees renewed confrontation with Russia, however, in a context much more unstable than that guaranteed by the balance of terror; in that historical stage the confrontation was reduced to only two subjects and, despite the tense situations, potential conflicts had an easier solution, thanks to the simplicity of trading and the relative simplicity of the scenarios. Today's world has a number of crisis areas, which are not only potential, but, rather, are most often real, where, that is, require the presence on the field, with its direct commitment. It is not just pure military scenarios, which represent the source of most immediate concern, but also to situations involving a continuing commitment of diplomacy and negotiation and which are also included within the boundaries of the Atlantic Alliance itself. In this regard, the increased American concern of the moment is the output of Britain by the European Union, a factor that threatens the alliance's operational units from Europe. Although the two supranational organizations, the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance, are two separate and independent entities, the fact that the European Union both within the Atlantic Alliance facilitates the relations between the two parties, but with England, which continental is the largest military power along with France, outside the chain of command from Brussels can be altered and also the same diplomatic issues may encounter obstacles preventing that assumption of strategic capacity, which Washington considers it necessary not only on the chessboard of the old continent. For the US the evolution of the European Union should be to become an actor capable of providing comprehensive security, a goal that goes far beyond the continental scenario, partly because the Mediterranean emergencies and those of the Middle East require a commitment of 'Europe, mainly for their own protection. We understand how Israel's English output from Brussels are based, partly because London is the main US ally and its presence in the European Union was an important factor of pressure for the support of US interests. The Atlantic Alliance must still be prepared to face the challenges of terrorism, instability in Africa, which have an impact on the problem of migrants and then on the trafficking of persons, in addition to the already mentioned problems with Moscow, which always keeps open the Ukrainian front . However, the dialogue with Russia must be maintained for reasons that go beyond mere reasonableness, considering that the Kremlin is committed, albeit with different intentions against the Islamic state, and on that front is therefore almost an ally. As for Europe, the focus is on the issue of smuggling, which created several European Union contrasts and that Washington follows with added concern for fear of new internal division factors for members of Brussels, thing, which is already present. If it is practically closed the Balkan road, it will not be so easy to block the southern Mediterranean route to the presence of the Islamic state in Libya contingents. The danger is also that the Caliphate, which is going to be defeated in Iraq, reorganize it in the center of the Libyan country in a strategically much more dangerous position, because it is much closer to Europe. Block the smuggling becomes an almost secondary requirement in front of the potential presence of armed groups in the face of European coastline. In addition, the Libyan government does not ensure reliability for its internal divisions and then the Atlantic Alliance should think about a strategy of contrast, it can also provide a direct commitment, although always alongside regular army of Libya.
