South Korea asks for help to Russia
The request for South Korea's help to Russia in the North Korean crisis marks a new one in the world diplomatic scenario. Seoul,
a traditional Washington ally, contacts Moscow to expand the chances of
a peaceful solution to the situation that has created Pyongyang. The
first is that the relationship between US and South Korea is no longer
exclusive, the second is that Seoul's request for help is directed at an
opponent country in the United States, and the third is the most
important thing that it buys Russia in the affair . This
scenario is not uncommon: Trump's election distance between the US and
South Korean countries has increased due to trade-related disagreements
and political tensions due to the profound difference between the two
heads of state. Even
in the management of the North Korean crisis, Seoul would have
preferred an attitude different from that adopted by the American
president, more prudent and prudent. For
South Korea, the country, which in the event of a conflict, even of a
conventional type, would be the most involved, it is important to seek a
diplomatic confrontation with Pyongyang: the main imperative is the
interview; Trump's
responses and attitude, at the moment only in words, went in the
opposite direction, to contemplate the military solution, a hypothesis
that has always been discarded by South Koreans. Despite
all this, the two countries are bound to maintain close ties, and in
this scenario is the decision of the White House to sell more
sophisticated weapons to Seoul than to Tokyo, and to continue joint
military exercises that so irritate Kim Jong- However,
for Seoul, the need to find alternative partners, supporting the
exclusive line of dialogue, has allowed Russia to enter into a scenario
that could also lead to significant economic developments. Putin
has been able to accredit itself as a factor of possible crisis
stabilization in the eyes of South Koreans and play a potentially
important role in resolving the crisis. The
idea of the Kremlin, which still does not recognize North Korea as
nuclear power, is that with the sole sanctions the attitude of Pyongyang
will not undergo variations; On
the contrary, it is important not to isolate North Korea, but it needs
to be involved in trilateral relations, between Seoul, Pyongyang and
Moscow, which can develop dialogue through economic agreements. Putin
seeks to capture two results at once: access to wealth in North Korean,
coal and, above all, wealthy rare earth deposits, and the supply of
Russian gas and electricity, of which Pyongyang is lacking in North Korea. In
addition, the Kremlin leader's proposal focuses on infrastructure,
proposing a development of the integration of the communication channels
between the two countries. As
Russia sees, it would like to adopt a solution opposite to the
sanctions, and therefore the United States, and proposes to provide
Pyongyang with elements of economic development capable of revitalizing
the country's economy in exchange for a different Kim Jong's
international attitude -a. Putin
would thus accede to the level of an enlightened statesman, even
against his image of a strong man, but this could allow him to enter
softly in a region that is crucial to world economic traffic. It
will be necessary to see how this innovation will be welcomed, as well
as by the USA, China, which considers this area as its exclusive
influence ground. If
Beijing was already ill-treated to an American presence, precisely
because of its alliances, not only with South Korea and Japan, but also
with the increasing contacts with Vietnam, the possibility of Moscow
entering the region could be a new element of controversy and a dispatch between Russia and China, so far only allied to convenience. The
ultimate consideration is that Trump once again hurt his country with
his short-sighted policy and without an organic plan, but only made of
the reactions of the moment.
