Russia and China, problems for Trump
There are two facts relevant to the United States, these days. The
first concerns an article written by Rex Tillerson, the current Deputy
State Secretary of State, who appeared in "The New York Times". The
Secretary of State, in one passage of the paper, states that the USA is
not on good terms with Moscow, with which it must, however, collaborate
on issues of common interest, for the Russian expansionist policy,
which has invaded Georgia and the Ukraine
and, above all, has tried to violate the sovereignty of Western states
trying to influence "our lessons" (text) and those of other nations. This is a resounding public admission, which in the coming days can not be subjected to very detailed analyzes and evaluations. Tillerson,
writing this (scripta manent), contradicts Trump, who had publicly said
he was trusting Putin's statements, which denied the Russian meddling
in the US presidential elections. So
we are creating a dualism that is certainly not convergent between the
maximum US monocratic power and the highest representative of American
foreign policy. What can this mean? If
the action is agreed, due to a possible rethinking of the president,
what we have to expect is a further deterioration of bilateral relations
between the US and Russia and this in disregard of what was proposed
Trump during the election campaign. The
question could lead to a sharpening of the confrontation between East
and West, which would also involve the relative allies, with all its
consequences. It
could be an address to which Trump could be forced by the military and
professional politicians, who have never seen well approaching
Washington with Moscow, precisely because of the protection of American
interests, endangered by Russia's aggressive foreign policy. In this case Trump's autonomy in the presidential role would be greatly reduced. If,
however, what was affirmed by Tillerson was an act deliberately
contrary to Trump, what is to be expected is a war within American
power, with the anti-Trump faction flanked by the investigators who
investigate the convulsion of Russia in the election of the president in office. If
a part of the American establishment, which supports Trump, should
begin to change his mind about the modalities of his election, the
solution of the impeachement would begin to become less remote. In
both cases it appears chairo that Trump consistently risks a
considerable weakening of his figure, especially on the internal level
and also among those who publicly support him and support him. The second major case is the discovery of the oil supplies that China has made to North Korea. It
is, of course, a discovery in a way of saying: the economy of Pyongyang
is on its last legs, both for its structure, and for the sanctions to
which it is subjected and without external aid the country would have
already failed. In
the same way it was evident that among those who violated sanctions,
China could not be in spite of the pragmatic declarations. Trump's
surprise is therefore fake (if it were not, we would be faced with too
much dilettantism), but the story underlines how the United States, in
this phase of world politics, is increasingly isolated, even by the
historic allies of the Atlantic Alliance. The
question of North Korea is about world security, but for the Americans
it represents a threat to their country and the White House appears
increasingly distant from those who can put pressure to cool the
situation. If
Washington were to acknowledge that the union between the two Koreas is
impossible because they were contrary to the Chinese interests and
imposed a policy of more relaxed relations with Beijing, perhaps the
problem could start at a solution. On
the contrary, a president like Trump seems too easy a target for China
and Russia, to continue their policies aimed at achieving their
exclusive goals. Once
again, Trump demonstrates all his inadequacy and political
inexperience, both on the domestic and on the international front. When
it is time to analyze this period from the historical point of view,
the judgment can only be one of the worst of American history.
