Europe and the USA clash at the summit of the seven advanced economies

The meeting of the seven countries with the most advanced economy in the world, which takes place in France, presents topics of great contrast between the members. The introduction of duties and the threat of new taxes on goods entering the US, wanted by Trump; the Russian question, with the European Union intending to maintain the sanctions against Moscow for the Crimean question and the war in Ukraine, but opposed by the United States, which, indeed, would like to readmit Russia to these meetings and finally the agreement on the Iranian nuclear, defended by Europe, but from which the US has unilaterally withdrawn, are the issues that are creating increasingly problematic relations between Brussels and Washignton. There is, then the problem entirely internal to the Union caused by the exit of the United Kingdom, repeatedly re-admitted, which is about to finally expire without an agreement between the two parties. For Europe the need to maintain an international order based on certain rules remains a non-deferrable issue and clashes with the political action of the American president, accustomed to not respecting the signed pacts and to constantly change his political address, which it is adapted from time to time to the contingent situations to obtain the maximum immediate advantage for the American country. These are two ways of carrying out the governmental action completely opposed and difficult to reconcile and which are at the base of the profound disagreements between the two parties and which have caused their progressive removal. However, Brussels tries to put cooperation between member countries at the center of the summit, thanks to being democracies that respect the rule of law; this feature is identified as a means to influence the current evolution of the world. It is understood that the dialogue between the seven major world economies remains the basis of possible positive relations, but to rely on a characteristic, albeit important, without the necessary support, diplomatic, military and economic, remains only a dangerous illusion. Also because the evidence of non-compliance with treaties by Washington continues to repeat itself: even the Paris agreement on the climate will be abandoned by the USA and the summit session dedicated to climate change will thus have a non-univocal outcome. An interesting novelty of the G7 will be the opening to the participation of African countries: Burkina Faso, Egypt, Rwanda, Senegal and South Africa, the involvement of African nations is interesting for the themes of immigration, the fight against terrorism, for potential collaborations in the field economic and to undermine Chinese hegemony in the African continent; but this can only be a first approach, which will have to be followed by concrete initiatives and considerable investments. Even more difficult to settle the question of the global economy, the confrontation between the Union and the USA, but with China as an interested spectator, on the question of the introduction of tariffs seems to be without solution, despite the signed agreements, but disregarded by the president of the United States . The real risk is that the introduction of tariffs will open the way to successive and infinite new taxes on both sides, with the real risk of an end price inflation capable of blocking the already low global growth. Another fundamental issue is taxes on large computer industries, which would mainly affect American companies, the Union intends to tackle the issue in a united manner, a modality that is not appreciated by Trump, who, as always with these issues, prefers to tackle the problem with individual states. These difficulties, which affect the relations between the states of the seven great powers, show how these organizations are experiencing a moment of crisis precisely because of the increasingly often conflicting objectives of their members and the diplomatic repercussions that these disagreements can cause. Certainly the opportunities for diplomatic meetings are always an opportunity to maintain or establish a dialogue and a periodic deadline for these meetings facilitates relations and collaboration between countries, which despite being allies, also have different visions on some topics; however, the level of confrontation since the Trump settlement has risen and has been a disturbing factor in relations between member states of the top seven world economies. Despite European efforts, the current White House does not seem to miss an opportunity to distance itself from its European partners and the first consequence was often the failure of diplomatic leaders. This signal imposes on the European Union, but also on Canada and Japan, a serious reflection on the relationship with the US, which is still essential, but not with the same characteristics that existed before Obama. New forms of alliance can be studied between the Union, Canada and Japan.
