The relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran crucial to the fight to the caliphate and the stability of the Middle East
The meeting between the representatives of the foreign Saudi Arabia and Iran, during the meetings at the United Nations, is of fundamental importance in the context of international relations of the Middle East, both for the current flow, which for future developments. Immediately means that the two nations do not underestimate the phenomenon of the caliphate and arrive to overcome historical divisions to deal with the problem. The two countries are the main representatives of the two strands which divides Islam, Sunni and Shia, and this has led to deep contrasts of a religious nature for supremacy in the literature, in the Islamic world, it also means international political supremacy. While both were anything but liberal governments of the two countries were always on opposing fronts of diplomacy: Saudi Arabia has always been a staunch ally of the United States has always seen Iran as a possible subject for the destabilization of the Middle East conflicting interests in the surrounding countries: Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iraq; also the issue of Iranian nuclear, saw a tacit alliance between the Saudis and Israelis against the development of nuclear technology in Iran, the widely supported by Washington, as long as the Americans did not consider, on the occasion of regime change in Tehran, of open negotiations to allow a peaceful development of atomic energy, while providing for the prohibition of nuclear proliferation in the military sense. These developments have moved away as Saudi Arabia and the United States and created some of the conditions favorable to the development of the Islamic state, especially in optical anti-Iranian, supported by several Sunni states, including, probably, the same Arabia. If Iran to the growth of the power of the caliphate means, above all, the concrete endangerment of the faithful Shiites and consequently reducing its sphere of influence, for the Saudis, the Islamic state threatens the theocratic vision that drives the country to become a viable alternative, which could jeopardize the ruling dynasty. The American vision is much more pragmatic but not short-term: to defeat the Caliphate alliance between Iran and Saudi Arabia is essential, but, together, represents an opportunity to open a period of détente in the Middle East; but so far it's only good intentions, given the mutual distrust between the two governments. However, this is still a considerable opening, unimaginable until recently. The role of American diplomacy must be addressed to create the best conditions in the phase of urgency in the fight against the caliphate, for then allow, between the two countries, stable relationships and collaborative, capable of giving long-lasting balance in the region. It remains impossible to reach this goal will not be reached if diplomatic relations destined to become constant over time, while taking into account the difficulties of a journey that can not collide with the great differences of the past and present.
