The possible consequences of the Swiss referendum on the EU
The outcome of the Swiss referendum offers at least three different interpretations . The first is to vote against immigration in general, such as , that sense of the rejection of the other . This concept is the basis of the vote, which is a fundamental discrimination on the stranger , seeing as bearer of changes to the state of things in place . The second , however, seems to conflict with the first : the vote is against the immigration of citizens , especially the frontier , with which it has a common cultural heritage almost identical. The case of the vote in the canton of Ticino, the Italian language is illustrative , since it is voting against the citizens of the neighboring Italian region of Lombardy . In this case, the reasons for voting against not seem to present the conditions of the first case , however, a different analysis can not emphasize how this determination of the Swiss does not enclose an excess of closure aimed at protecting the territorial specificity , even against what is considered an invasion, even by people culturally related . The third key to understanding focuses on economic reasons : it may be some practical reason , which consists in the grounds that cross-border accept lower wages Swiss citizens , for similar applications , this could be easily circumvented by a state law that prohibits unequal treatment for workers engaged in the same employment. The economic rationale in the Swiss voters formed the main spring around which coalesce and justification to avoid being accused of racism , but in fact the refusal is directed against foreigners in general and against the EU in particular. In fact, the opposite tendencies in Brussels , born in the individual countries of the Union, against the movement and the assistance provided to European citizens of the poorest states , from the richest , has generated several schools of thought , even at the institutional level , as in the United Kingdom and Germany , which have allowed the maturation of an anti-immigration sentiment outside the borders of the EU. Of course , Switzerland was already a fertile ground but with this result the wave condition is likely to go back and widely treaties already signed . One can well understand , in fact, the resistances of London and Berlin, in a difficult time like this for the economy, but then the EU had to be more selective before and after admitting countries already in wide difficulties . The Swiss vote could embarrass Brussels on the free movement of European citizens and also create situations where the EU could come into conflict with the law have been wanting to quotas on immigration from member states , which would be a law in conflict with the directives Europe. They could then open up scenarios stark contrast between the central institutions and the governments of individual countries , which may also foreshadow hypothesis sanctions. This possibility seems remote , however , if Germany were to pass this difficult line that Brussels intends to get across , but the most logical would then rewrite the rules in force, that could really bring that Europe at two speeds so desired , to example, by the British , this pass because from the limitation of movement , intended primarily as an economic fact , is very close to twice the value of the single currency. This scenario would , however, scuttled all possibility of a deeper political union , something to which Berlin holds a lot: in short, a mess that could be difficult to resolve from the simple result of the Swiss referendum .
