The political failure of Europe, endangers its citizens

The Brussels attacks have highlighted the inability of the security forces and the many flaws in the system of prevention of Belgium, a situation, in part, similar to the French one, but aggravated by the fact that the attack in Brussels, both for the large presence of radical Muslims, and because it is the seat of the European institutions, had been rated as highly likely. Certainly the lack of common European rules on anti-terrorism problem has aggravated the scenario and this has raised deep concern for the future. The president of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, admitted how cooperation between the secret services of the union was strong until 1999, but never really implemented; in fact, you were never resolved the resistance from some countries, most notably France and of England, always averse to a real collaboration with colleagues in other countries. This prevented an exchange of information and its creation of a single repository, allowing to have a knowledge of the movements of terrorists, even in their own countries, which is necessary for effective prevention work. This situation clarifies how the need for the creation and operation of a shared structure has been neglected for reasons of patriotism and nationalist myopia, with the result to facilitate the action of the terrorists, who have exploited the weaknesses of the European defense. The need for intelligence coordination was reaffirmed by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Avramopoulos, who openly accused the national governments for obstructing the decisions already taken in the past year, to achieve greater cooperation between the police forces Member States and, therefore, greater efficiency in the prevention of contrasting phenomena terrorism. From the United States comes the demand for greater commitment from Europe against the Islamic State, an aspect where the European Union has so far been unconvincing, due to the limited military commitment. In fact there are many slopes on which Europe must work and take off from the passive state in which it is confined alone. It is surprising, that after every terrorist act suffered by, the European Union expresses a very strong and also shared rhetoric, though then it was followed by the facts: but so far this necessary attitude has always been denied by the prevalence of national interests of those Community . Yet every time that Europe is hit is clearly a need to overcome the current unitary structure, based on a recently convinced commitment to the founding values of a monetary union less and less in favor of the population; it is safe to say that the same budgetary constraints imposed from Brussels, have had negative consequences for security costs, which were affected by the contractions are not indifferent. All union downsides appear related: poor security, economic uncertainty and the inability to govern emerging phenomena, such as terrorism, make the current European Union, as it is now structured, a political entity wholly inadequate to provide answers to situations that demand urgent remedies and often quotes. The present scenario is about a constant danger, which needs central institutions with a real and not only nominal power, the European armed forces and centralized intelligence organizations, able, together, to streamline the forces and direct them towards goals that go beyond mere national interest. But creating these conditions without an overlying political body is unthinkable, as it is unthinkable to give up parts of sovereignty, states whose citizens do not identify with a Europe that worsened their quality of life. There would be time to advance these processes, without giving the critical ability to populist forces, it is preferred, however, favor the interest of big business, the banks and big business, certainly not in keeping with the greater part of the population. So, now, it will face terrorism loosely and not very functional, allowing terrorist extremism an advantage that we should not concede.
