Four months after the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan, the European Union, but not all of its members, has decided to host over 38,000 Afghan refugees; the announcement by the European interior commissioner seeks to provide shelter to the citizens of the Afghan country who need protection especially for having collaborated with Westerners during the previous government, but it also serves Brussels to regain some reconciliation with the European conscience, or at least that part that has pronounced itself for the protection of rights, while signaling once again, if it were necessary, that the Union is anything but united on the theme of hospitality and on the very sharing of the founding values of Union. The country that will take the greatest burden of hosting Afghan refugees will be Germany, where about 25,000 will be welcomed. The hospitality of Afghans is part of a wider availability than the quantity of refugees to be welcomed, which the European Union has guaranteed and which in total will concern 60,000 people, of which, in fact, the Afghans represent the largest contingent, while the remaining number will concern refugees from Syria or the southern Mediterranean; the number of refugees accepted will be slightly less than what the United Nations required, which was 42,500 Afghan citizens. The methods of arrival of the refugees will follow security corridors in order to guarantee every safeguard for the people. Outside the list of fifteen host countries are Austria, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, while Solovacchia has said it is willing to accept 22 Afghan citizens. What is proposed again is a comparison no longer tolerable between those who accept, subscribe and put into practice the founding principles of the Union and those who reject them by taking only the advantages; that is, we are facing yet another negative and probably incontrovertible sign of the real legitimacy that some countries continue to remain members of the European Union by right. These governments often on the border of democracy, so much so that they are repeatedly accused of violating rights, continue their minority policy in front of the majority by virtue of the unanimity rule and the lack of sanctions to remain in the Union, proving that they do not deserve it. . Brussels must understand to revise its rules to eliminate parasitic nations, those that do not fulfill their duties, but enjoy all the advantages as if they did. The issue of refugees represents the most important signal for understanding the real intentions of a nation in the face of the obligations it has freely subscribed to, Brussels can no longer tolerate such behavior and in the loyal members of the Union a debate should be concretely opened that can reach also to a drastic reduction of the members of the supranational body, in order to eliminate the members opposed to the European ideals. This is an analysis that can no longer be postponed, which must not include fears of a possible numerical downsizing, because this will allow for an adhesion marked by a higher quality due to the real sharing of the burdens and not just the advantages. The experience of Great Britain has also had positive repercussions, showing that the Union can continue its path even without a member of such importance and, therefore, all the more reason to eliminate countries of lesser weight. The alternative is a two-speed Europe, but this solution still contains delays in the path of nations convinced of European ideals, so it is better to clarify immediately, so as not to see more proposals to build walls with European contributions: the Union was not born for this.
