For the EU, the looming problem of Scotland and all the territories that want independence

The specter of secession stirred European states . If the referendum in Scotland , which will be held next September , would give an affirmative answer to the feelings of independence , what you fear is a real domino effect , which would involve first Catalonia and especially would take place in a period where the anti- European trends , which are gaining more and more political and social , could be a breeding ground very favorable . The result is greatly feared Scots in the UK, so much so that an independent Scotland is under threat of exclusion from the EU, as the process of accession to the European supranational body , is long and laborious , because it has to include a variety of themes , including currency , the economy and border controls , and above all , it must pass the scrutiny of member states. We understand how these issues are a veiled threat to the drives for independence , is that of any other Scottish regions that might want to break away from the mother country. The issue is complex because it can be used as an instrument of blackmail by the part of governments that do not agree with any part of the detachment of portions of a state, but which are characterized by peculiar qualities, which eventually lead to a reasonable request greater autonomy. The Scottish case is significant in this situation , as well as the Catalan , these territories with their own history , ethnicity, customs and sometimes even language , which differ from those which are administered by state and justifying the ' there is a sense of belonging that exceeds or is even at odds with that of the state within which they are included . Often a country's constitution expressly prohibits the dismemberment of its territory , as happens in Spain , however, a referendum such as Catalan, declared illegal , if it proves favorable to detachment from Madrid would be impossible to disregard. In the phase after the Second World War or after a dictatorship, as in Spain, the legal solution , in terms of the constitution, that it is preferred to choose was to grant greater autonomy to these territories , with special rules that guaranteed a certain autonomy by the central government , while still framed within national borders. If the wind has always blown independence , for cultural reasons and ideological , the economic crisis and address some of the legislation in Brussels, too tense to even out individual local practices , have invigorated these autonomist sentiments . In fact, both the Scottish case that the Catalan , have never shown against the European ideal , offering only a different way to embrace it. Do not you see , moreover, how to prevent the adhesion to the common European home to a Scotsman or a Catalan, who are already within the institution in Brussels. Both the United Kingdom and Spain, are deeply concerned about losing two regions important for reasons of prestige and economic interest and leverage its international agreements to be part of international organizations , to desist voters to vote in favor of these secessions . These behaviors can not be shared because it does not take into account the right of the people , even the people who are not yet independent , self-determination and to run counter to the ideal of Europe to bring together its different peoples . Of course, these cases are designed to create a proselytizing in different areas and for the future of one of the most important roles of the European institution would be to act as guarantor of the posting of these new state entities , always within the EU. This perspective , still not enough investigated and planned , should instead be developed as a unitary factor of a Europe made up of many autonomous , they can retain their unique nature and identity within a political union stronger. See this aspect as an element of strength rather than weakness could help lessen the mistrust in the institution through the consolidation of the single European traditions respected at a general level .
