Ukraine: the difficult negotiations to join the EU

The story of the leader of the Orange Revolution in Ukraine , Yulia Tymoshenko, with the approach of the European Union in Kiev , appear inevitably intertwined. But lingers on both the obstacle posed by Moscow for entry into Europe of a state that considers its offshoot . To get access to the European Union , Ukraine has to settle the issue of its detained more excellent : the former Prime Minister Tymoshenko. Suspicions of a sentence for abuse of power took place are the obstacle that stands between Kiev and Brussels, also if Ukraine will continue to prevent the former prime minister of care in Germany the doors of the European Union and those of its market will be closed for the country of Ukraine . This limit , rather than legitimate place in Brussels provides the faction of Ukraine in Russia's favor but a specious argument for substantial block admission to the European Union , because without this obstacle , which seems easily overcome , the road to Brussels would be totally downhill. But a substantial part of Ukraine fears the consequences of joining the European Union would have on relations with Russia , increasingly considered by many the most important ally . The Kremlin , who does not like a departure of a territory which considers an extension of it , is working pressures more or less obvious to Kiev remains substantially in its sphere of influence, more than you would if it came to be part of the EU. For those in favor of suspicion for entry into Europe were a few trips to Moscow Ukrainian President Yanukovych, after which the Ukrainian government has put first priority the need to normalize relations with Russia. This sudden change , which occurred at a time in which the agreements with Brussels seemed now close , has been interpreted by observers as the effect of deterrence Russian , according to the dictates of Putin. Even the attitude of Gazprom was less flexible in respect of supplies to Kiev. The question, therefore , is now taking significant geopolitical connotations : for Russia the choice towards an organization regarded as the emblem of the West, from the Ukraine , not just lose a substantial part of which exert their influence , but opens a potential rift in what remains of the former Soviet empire and in the plans of Putin is the basis from which to start to restore Russia to the level of super-power , repeatedly evoked in the election campaign and with a huge military spending . Obviously, if the countries that should be closer to Moscow escape its area of influence the design of the Kremlin began to fail . On the other hand a substantial proportion of Ukrainian country that recognizes the opposition but not limited to , is pushing in the opposite direction to their Russian , looking for a new perspective through the placement in the European Union , which is seen as a chance to growth in both economic and in terms of extension of civil rights. The secondary aspect is not just for those considering Russia as a country where the enjoyment of civil and political rights is far from assured , and for this you do not like the tight coupling . The country is still divided on the destination to be taken to its geopolitical destiny and Europe , although it intends to accept the Ukraine , can not do so if the necessary conditions are required to adhere to Brussels, however, even behind the significant pressures that come from Germany , the deal has not yet been definitively closed and still have some room for maneuver seems to exist , even if everything is in the hands of President Yanukovych.
