Iran calls for a meeting with Saudi Arabia
The foreign policy of Iran continues its program of change. After the result reached in the Geneva Summit , Tehran tries to convince the country , as well as Israel , most unruly against it : Saudi Arabia. The two nations are divided by a historical enmity , which is rooted in questions of a religious nature , which are in comparison , more and more present and on, between Shiites and Sunnis. These reasons have led to a real competition for supremacy in the Islamic religion. But it is the geopolitical issues that have influenced and in a negative sense , the relations between the two states. Especially , in recent times, the Syrian issue saw the two countries ranged on diametrically opposite sides , with the Iranians support the Assad regime , whose alliance is considered fundamentally strategic to Tehran and the Saudis to support the Sunni opposition in attempt to extend their influence over the Syrian country . The current visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister , Mohammad Javad Zarif , the Gulf countries aims to normalize relations between the country of Iran and the Sunni monarchies . In this diplomatic journey will be touched only Kuwait and Qatar , but the need to make a visit to Saudi Arabia was underlined by the same minister , even if , for now, there is no official meeting between the two states. As stated by the head of Tehran's foreign policy is an opening of great importance for the balance of the region, always potentially in the balance, not surprisingly, the Iranian foreign minister spoke explicitly of the need to promote peace and stability throughout the Middle East. The fact that there are already developing contacts with traditionally been allied with the Saudis, as, indeed , Kuwait and Qatar , is a starting point certainly not irrelevant in the context of overall regional diplomatic relations . However, the real crux is that exceeded the distrust between the two most important states , which are those that can declare a general shift in the balance . What appears on the intentions of the new government in Tehran is the need to get out of an isolation that resulted in the downfall of the economy , the step was taken toward the Gulf states is a complete breakthrough, the executive and not the previous is possible that behind this move, absolutely impossible until a few months before, there is an agreement or, at least, a suggestion from Washington . The relations between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia have deteriorated with the failure to attack the regime in Damascus and with the signing of the Geneva Accords , however, for the United States , Saudi remains a very important ally , whose relationship could be recovered thanks to a detente with Iran. It is not impossible that a triangulation would have the merit of bringing within the tracks are easier to manage even the religious question within Islam , which is a major factor for stability in the region . Certainly a key role in the story will concern the attitude that Tehran wants to keep both the Syrian issue , both in the developments of the situation in Iraq , because what is most feared by the Gulf monarchies is the danger of an increase in Iranian influence ' regional context. If relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia were to find a new balance to be more isolated Israel would then , that, with regard to the country of Iran has similar positions with Saudi , especially with regard to the nuclear issue . Behind all the matter we can not glimpse an American design , pursuing a peace or at least a less unstable balance in the Middle East.
