The situation in Ukraine, and the decline of the EU

The degeneration of the situation in Ukraine raises fears of dangerous developments in the country. Demonstrators in favor of Europe , who have poured into the streets of Kiev in large numbers, such as has not happened from the Orange Revolution , have enacted blocks around government buildings to prevent access to state officials . The violent clashes resulted in several injuries , a figure of around 200 , but the government has denied wanting to declare a state of emergency. It is , obviously , a decision made with the intent to calm tempers , without exacerbating a square anything but resigned . According to the organizers of the protests the violence would have been triggered by factors outside of peaceful demonstrators , but by groups of provocateurs to enable the authorities to have an excuse to crack down on the protest. There are rumors that Russia would be ready to join forces to help the government with its own departments riot , but officials in Moscow have denied this possibility, which, if implemented, could cause problems at the international level . Moreover, the concern coming from European capitals , records that the Ukrainian issue has largely beyond national borders , beyond the mere appearance of the non- entry into the EU . What we are witnessing is a clear return in key Russian , Soviet imperialism , which does not allow those states , formally independent , believes that under its influence , to free themselves from the yoke of Moscow, to embrace a new way. Russia for its domestic interests is implementing a policy that goes beyond its sovereignty , to meet the maintenance of hegemony on the countries of the former USSR , on which still manages to have convincing arguments : if it is the Ukrainian economic blackmail . This line of conduct door of safe consents to Putin on the internal level, but at international level is likely to be a disaster. Programs return a superpower clash with the consequences of isolation that can lead to the Ukrainian case and that in the long term could bring more disadvantages than opportunities. It is true that Ukraine is not all compact in pursuing entry into Europe , but it is divided into a profound way. If now in the streets there are in favor of the EU is because this solution was rejected by the government, but in the event of a situation reversed, it is not difficult to predict a protest just as hard. The president of Ukraine holds an ambivalent attitude , recognizing that failure to entry in Europe is due to the economic situation , which would worsen without significantly aid the Russians, acknowledges the pressure from Moscow , but , at the same time , he says he will do everything to bring the country within the area of Brussels. However, if this is possible is hard to predict when and how. In the design of Putin is not permissible to miss any part of the former Soviet Union in favor of other international actors , but this does not prevent you to do business with the same states of the EU, which open their buildings to raw materials and liquidity Russian . Putin is condemned on moral grounds , but in a discreet way and this attitude , at least for the moment, it reinforces the belief of being able to act undisturbed in the internal affairs of a state that has yet to be considered under the control of the Kremlin. This is a situation that highlights such as the EU , understood as the subject has less weight in the international diplomatic scene , but is still considered and in spite of everything , as a potentially rich market . The Ukrainian case , so it must make you think the bureaucrats in Brussels and the governments of the EU countries , the role they intend to take to Europe and increasingly in decline.
