The Afghan electoral environment is broad reconciliation

The Afghan electoral environment is completely different from the last appointment with the ballot , from which he emerged victorious Karzai. The outgoing president was then accused of electoral fraud to get the victory , but now the climate is much more relaxed . In the first round , although the results are still uncertain , it outlines a situation where the former foreign minister , Abdullah , got 41.9 %, while the economist Ghani would reach 37.6 percent . If these data are confirmed the country will return to the polls for the runoff . The division of the vote was on a geographical basis and tribal Abdullah has got more support in the north, inhabited by Tajiks , while Ghani has gained supremacy in the south of the country , the area inhabited by Pashtuns. At the center of the election debate there is still a reconciliation with the Taliban and the search for a new harmony with the neighboring country with which Afghanistan has had more contrasts: Pakistan. In terms of peace with the Taliban, there seems to be the availability of two candidates for the waiver of the protection of human rights , which would be affected in the event that the primary demand of the Taliban movement : the application of Islamic law. The level of enforcement and recognition of the rights obtained by the immense sacrifices do not justify a return to the past in the name of an unstable peace . To solve this problem the elimination of differences with Pakistan , it becomes an essential tool. Islamabad also the problem of the Taliban is an emergency state . So far the two countries have accused each other of supporting Taliban groups present in the opposite state , feeding , in fact, a guerrilla able to keep in apprehension the two countries. But the election of Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif , has seen a change of course , the problem in fact the Taliban is now framed within the broader problem of fundamentalism. With this new paradigm should not be difficult to find an agreement between the two countries to marginalize and defeat at least the ones that are the most extreme and groups who make use of the armed struggle as a means of pressure on the two governments. To do so requires a new view of the relationship between the two countries, that Ghani has definite must become very similar to the relationship established between France and Germany at the end of World War II . The two candidates said they were also in agreement for the maintenance of an American contingent , albeit reduced , in order to facilitate the maintenance of the balance of peace in the country. Even for Karzai , who also had heavy clashes with the two candidates , and especially with Abdullah , he still sees a future as a protagonist in the political and institutional life of Afghanistan , yet to be determined but to secure relevance and not merely administrative . The two candidates , still far from the election campaign for the ballot , said they have respect for one another , recognizing , respectively, to work for the national interest.
