The need for European sanctions against Russia
The tragic end of the plane Malaysian compel the members of the EU to review the individual items that made up the picture too heterogeneous in Brussels, unable to find a common direction to develop a clear answer to the behavior of Russia. The greater likelihood is that the pro-Russian rebels have hit the flight line with arms supplied by Moscow, and despite the Kremlin's clumsy attempts to attribute the responsibility for what happened in Kiev, this puts the European countries, although different in their attitudes to Russia, to give a reaction capable of punishing Moscow. Currently the split is clear, with the countries of the East, who belonged to the Warsaw bloc, who have always supported the need for strong responses capable of limiting Russian nationalism, on the other western states, which for economic reasons never explicitly declared, they held a more conciliatory attitude, passing for a diplomatic solution best suited to the resolution of the case. In fact about the Russian flagrant violations of international law there has been, on the part of the Western European states, the adequate recognition of the crime, but a too conciliatory policy with Moscow, which, however, must take into account a worsening of the situation. Even without civilian casualties of the countries with the Ukrainian question did not have to do, the victims had to be sufficient in the disputed areas to develop a strategy to contain the crisis. It must, however, be also specified that the United States itself, though solicited by members of the EU and NATO previously belonging to the Soviet sphere of influence, they kept a low profile towards Moscow, which has served to limit its action. U.S. sanctions have focused on individual characters and little else, the measures are far from making Russia desist from its expansive action. The desire not to clash with the Kremlin, not so much from the military point of view, but especially from the political and diplomatic got the opposite of the desired effect. In this context, the tragic fact of the aircraft Malaysian takes the form of a collateral circumstance, but it serves to indicate that the high level of danger to the stability achieved by the concerned regional and global. The resistances of the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy are derived from financial necessity, economic and energy, which bind through major commercial contracts, these countries with Russia; if the initial attitude that favored the dialogue, it could certainly be included, the failure of this strategy requires a revision of diplomatic relations with the Kremlin: even if a fact as the killing of an airliner helps to make the change docility of Western Europe, the prestige of these countries and, as a result of the EU, will inevitably be compromised. The result to be achieved is the renunciation of Russian plans to destabilize Ukraine, which has already paid the heavy price of the subtraction of the Crimea, and the achievement of peace in the region. Inevitably, the first step will be to identify the responsibility for what happened to the plane Malay, but this aspect, indispensable, Moscow could stiffen still more, if it is established that it is the responsibility of the incident. Any negotiation is not advertised so easy and that is why Russia must be subject to effective sanctions that force him to withdraw support and weapons to the rebels pro-Russian. Putin must undergo a diplomatic isolation that reduces relented, through the boycott of Russian companies and the off supplies technology, which is increasingly dependent on Russia to carry out its industrialization. To do this, not just the will of the Eastern European states, but it is necessary that those in the West to increase their pressure also going to meet mutual economic retaliation. To do this, a unified policy in the European context, the protection of individuals who were exposed in the international sanctioning activity, an opportunity to develop an overall strategy for the future, given that these situations will potentially be increasingly present in international overview in a scenario global increasingly marked by milestones but influenced by evolving situations, determined by international actors with new goals.
