The activity of Russian military aircraft alert the Atlantic Alliance

The unusual activities of Russian military aircraft over the skies of the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Black Sea, part, once again, in Putin's strategy to create confusion and apprehension at major international events, which in some way interfere with the Kremlin. It is no coincidence that they are in negotiations in Brussels, between Russia and Ukraine on gas supplies and is in the process of blocking the delivery of military vessels that Moscow has commissioned in Paris, without the effect of the sanctions. The Russian military aircraft overflight was carried out without the equipment set up for their recognition, creating a potential heightened risk for airliners, which was prevented radio contact with air traffic control authorities. The aircraft used in this kind of intimidation, they were both hunting, that bombers and their fly over the affected areas does not seem to have been communicated. Military aircraft from different countries of the Atlantic Alliance, including Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Germany and Turkey have been involved in the direct control of Russian aircraft in conditions certainly peaceful, but potentially dangerous, but only if an error human. Some analysts have flown in the skies in the vicinity of Norway wanted to signify a kind of warning to the new Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, right of Norwegian nationality, who began his tenure with a keynote address focused on the relationship with Moscow. Similarly the use of Russian military aircraft can be seen as a form of warning against the Ukrainian authorities, engaged in negotiations for its gas supplies with Russia. After the military and armored vehicles deployed on the long border between the two states, Moscow chose to continue to exert a subtle, not only with regard to Kiev, but also the West, which supports the Ukrainian government. Read the real intentions of Putin that are behind this event almost childish display of muscle, does not seem as easy as it sounds. Beyond the considerations on the inconsistency of these means of pressure, it is necessary to consider whether the head of the Kremlin intends to implement a strategy towards, especially the West, which aims to bring the limits to the breaking point. There is undoubtedly an analogy with the approach taken with Ukraine demonstration in the use of Russian troops massed at the border, with the use of military aircraft against the Atlantic Alliance. Of course with Brussels will not go too far, as it did with Kiev, however, if the intention is to create confusion and even discomfort, the goal is now centered. It should be noted that Europe, although not too convinced, he followed the path of the US sanctions, which have recently tightened up, and put in real difficulty Russia. This may have caused a decline in the domestic consensus that Putin can not recover, at least in the short term, making withdraw from the EU sanctions, otherwise it can prove to the domestic audience, to have a force of intimidation that may threaten Western countries to the limits of their airspace. Probably Putin believes these maneuvers essential for the benefit of the majority of Russians, but in doing so exposes his country to greater isolation and results entirely counter to the objective of reducing the penalties. Not to be underestimated is the inherent risks of such operations, especially remembering the crash of the Dutch fell, probably at the hands of pro-Russian rebel when the Kremlin had provided the necessary weapons. The formal request of the Netherlands to Russia on the data of those days was not enough emphasized by the media, including the intention of the Dutch government to maintain, for now, a low profile, but the matter is far from closed, and the possibility of similar accidents may result in deterioration of relations between Moscow and the West, with consequences that are difficult to predict.
