The Syrian war spreads in Turkey
The attack in Turkey opens a new front in the Syrian issue. According
to the Turkish authorities the terrorist act was carried out by the
organization Kurdish Syrian, fighting in Syria against the moderate
Sunni militias backed by Ankara. The
attack could be a response to military actions that the Turks are
waging in Syria against its own Kurdish fighters, to prevent the
emergence of an independent Kurdish state on their borders. The military Turkey have intensified their military operations against the Kurds in Syria, raising protests from Damascus. According
to Ankara another possibility is that there is just behind the attack
Assad, who does not like the presence of the Turkish armed forces
operating in Syria, both against the Kurds, but especially in favor of
the militias who oppose the Syrian dictator. In
any case it is an extension of the Syrian conflict from inside Turkish
borders, because the relationship with the war that is being fought in
Syria appears obvious. Moreover,
Turkey has taken an increasingly active role in the conflict, both
supporting the moderate Sunni militias fighting against Assad, both
against the Kurds, taking advantage of the general chaos to weaken its
military structure; In
this regard it should also report the military aviation activities in
Ankara with raids in Iraq, to bomb military positions in the Kurdish
Iraqi Kurdistan. This
activism can be read basically in two ways, the first to focus
attention on the problem of internal Kurdish separatism, with the aim of
diverting media attention from the difficulties of the government is
related to the economic crisis, which in the following policy protests arising from a decline in civil rights in the country; the second, however, is the geopolitical order, to gain more influence on Syria and the Middle East area. Erdogan's
action overturned the relationship with the Kurds, removing the
possibility of a reconciliation that seemed now at hand to make the
enemy to be fought at all costs, a strategy that is not served to
contain the electoral exploits of the Kurdish party, voted also by many Turks, against the illiberal policies of Erdogan. Queso
election result has, in fact, worsened the attitude of Erdogan who
identified the Kurds as a main target to hit in order to maintain his
political power, even against internal opposition is not expressed by
the Kurdish movement. But
this attitude has a cost, that perhaps the answer of the Kurds could
not have not been calculated properly by the Government of Turkey does
not arrive and the terrorist actions are the only viable means for
groped to reduce the pressure on the Syrian Kurdish fighters. This
scenario proves that the dreaded enlargement of the Syrian conflict is
occurring with new methods compared to the problems that concern the
comparison between Assad and the opposition or between the forces
opposed to the Caliphate and the Islamic state. Turkey
has elevated the confrontation with the Kurds exporting it outside its
borders and taking action on the territories of other states, helping to
increase the sense of confusion in the general economy of the conflict,
but now, as a result, is to suffer acts terrorist
that must be placed outside of the dialectic between the turkish
government and the Kurds of Turkey, that is, outside of an inner speech,
to be included in an international dimension, which is configured as an
act of real war by of
a foreign power, such as the Kurds of Syria they are actually, having
assumed an autonomy, which although not yet officially recognized,
allowing it to pursue its own sovereignty. On
the other hand the solution to the Syrian state division into three
states, of which, in fact, a Kurdish, is shared by different parties,
except, of course, from Ankara. What
is perceived is that, even outside its borders to Turkey, treat the
Kurdish question as its own peculiar problem of internal dimension,
rather than placing it in due international dimension; This
vision is the basis of the invasion of Syrian territory and in the
territory of Iraqi actions, undertaken in a manner not usual, as they
should be designed according to international law. The
fact that Ankara, then, appeals to western states to support its fight
against Kurdish terrorism, it means seeking international legitimacy,
that is unlikely to get, at least in ways desired by Turkey. The
importance of the Kurdish fighters for the US remains fundamental and
Washington has different political and military debts to the Kurds, who
sooner or later will have to be compensated.
