Americans may appeal against Saudi Arabia for the September 11 attacks

The approval of the United States Congress of the law, which will allow the families of the victims of September to sue Saudi Arabia, a serious threat, and further, the relationship between the two states. very relevant particularly is the fact that the US Congress has spoken out against the will of the US President and several members of the Democratic Party have voted in favor of the measure. Obama hoped to end his presidency, leaving the least possible compromise the relationship with the Saudis, preventing a legislative measure that opens the possibility of recoupment, litigating against Riyahd. If the reasons of international politics are understandable, the White House had to prevent new factors contrast with Saudi Arabia, after the mutual relationship had deteriorated to the question of the Iranian nuclear agreements, the one that prevailed in the legislative field, is the common feeling of the American population, eager for justice against the attack of 2001. a feeling, on the other hand also already acknowledged by Hillary Clinton, who has publicly stated that, if victorious, would support the law, now already approved. From the point of view of international relations it is clear that the distance between the two countries increases considerably and this can not but have an impact on their relations, which cause serious crisis using an alliance, which until now had been a fixture in foreign policy US. Obama considered a staple of its mandate the objective of reaching an agreement with the Iranians, to avert the nuclear threat, however, this has affected the relationship with the Saudis, for the truth already not too firm, for the suspicions of the presence of ties with the Islamic fundamentalist terrorism, which would have benefited, in time of funding from Sunni monarchies. The risk involved in the current decision of the Congress is to weaken the indirect US presence in the Middle East and thus to foster instability and uncertainty in terms of alliances in the region, with the consequence of a lack of coordination between Washington and Persian Gulf monarchies, currently on combating Islamic state and in the future on other eventuality that may occur in a part of the world with more and more uncertain situations. Internally, however, the consequences will be mainly economic. The fear of lawsuits that may result in the loss of large sums of money from the Saudis, implies the possible sale of the substantial investment that the Arab country has operated in the United States, not only in the private sector, but also in the public sector, by holding large shares of US government debt. It understands how the possible repercussions in the financial world could open scenarios likely to have repercussions on the global market. However the same Saudis are skeptical about whether, technically, the American courts to accommodate the causes against them; But the fact remains that the perception that Americans have of Arabia has become deeply averse, and this can not but have a direct impact, both politically, and economically. This consideration could begin a reflection on the desirability of having ties to states where there are no guarantees on the rights and because of this fact, do not hesitate to pursue their own political ends hurting even their allies. The point is that taking a course too discordant from their moral, for obvious reasons of political expediency, might not even have those expected returns. Certainly, this case is twisted, the uncertainty about him, especially on the real, but possible, liability on September attacks, but give, however, an example that may be intended to make the school, on how well the international relations can be conditioned by low: in fact a vote against the possibility of appealing against Saudi Arabia would be welcomed too negatively by the majority of the American population, on which the psychological effects of the attack in 2001 are still present. In the future it is possible that similar cases may affect the relationship between the states and to provide information completely different from those followed by the executive in charge.
